Friends of Bloomfield Green

Since 2014, Friends of Bloomfield Green (formerly Bloomfield Open Space) have helped to care for this recreational space, owned and managed by B&NES Council.

In February 2023 Bloomfield Green celebrates its centenary as a public amenity: it was in Feb 1923 that Bath City Corporation bought the land from the Wiltshire family. Look out for details of the celebrations to come!

The Friends meet regularly for clean-ups and gardening (see photo left), and in June each year they organise the Gathering on the Green.

If you would like to join the Friends, contact Clyde Hunter. Email enquiries@bearflat.org.uk and we’ll put you in touch. And do keep coming back to this page for dates of events.

In 2015, Prof Angus Buchanan, a world-renowned historian of industry and technology – and, with his wife and fellow scholar Brenda – a Bear Flat resident, wrote an article about the Green for the Bear Flat History group. The article ends with a passionate plea to ensure its conservation. Please email history@bearflat.org.uk for a copy.
