Bear Flat is a residential community on the South side of the city centre with a number of independent cafes , pubs and Menu Gordon Jones, perhaps Bath’s most highly regarded restaurant.
Why the name ? Well, the area has been farmed since at least the medieval period and an early settlement of Berewick, is probably the source of the area’s name
In an unusual partnership, Bath and North East Somerset Council commissioned BFA to produce a character appraisal for Bear Flat and Oldfield Park, and that study – one of a series about the Bath Conservation Area – is now on the Council web site where it can influence planning applications and policy.
The Bear Flat and Oldfield Park Character Appraisal and others in the series can be found via beta . bathnes . gov . uk/view-conservation-character-appraisals
